July Japan Book Club

Looking for a book to spark visions of the future? The Argo Bookshop, in conjunction with the JET Alumni Association of Quebec and Atlantic Canada, will be hosting its July Japan Book Club on July 28.

For this meeting, we'll be discussing Sputnik Sweetheart by Murakami Haruki. As the most popular Japanese author of the past few decades, Murakami hardly needs any introduction. Sputnik Sweetheart represents an ideal place to start reading his work, or a high-quality read for his fans. A slim novel from the strongest period of his long career, this book tells the story of K, a man in love with his best friend Sumire. When Sumire moves to an island off the coast of Greece to be with an older woman, she disappears. K goes to search for her, but the world is not always quite what it seems.

Join us online via Zoom for a lively discussion! Email us at events @ argobookshop.ca for the link. You can read the book in any language. You're also welcome to come if you haven't read the book, but there will be spoilers.
