About The Book:
Sheologies begins with a folktale of a world where lagoons speak, flowers pray, and seagulls wear kippahs. The poems trace a nonlinear journey through a world left by Jewish feminine ancestors, plantcestors, and priestesses, asking what it means to heal lineage, to center women’s magic as community care, and to call on a feminine God.
Review:
“I am thoroughly enchanted by poet Hannah Yerington’s debut chapbook. Sheologies dances the shimmering line between poetry and prayer with exceptional grace, deftly weaving a tender lyric voice with sensual imagery and a thematic exploration of sacredness in the everyday feminine. Yerington is a poet who knows that to truly see something is to sanctify it – and through her luminous gaze, we glimpse a world lit softly from within by magic. Here, the fierce courage of teenage girl ancestors is honoured at last, flower spirits whisper from their garden beds, and soul-cleansing rituals can be cast with tap water and a chipped teacup. Readers will be drawn in by Sheologies’ intimate exploration of femininity, Jewish magic, and nature – and left with a feeling of deep reverence for the miraculous hidden in the mundane.”
