Last Call to Apply to the Audible Indigenous Writers' Circle
The Audible Indigenous Writers’ Circle is currently accepting applications from Indigenous writers to undergo a six-month mentorship and workshop program that will enable them to reach their goals as writers and gain greater recognition for their work. Applicants will be paired with Indigenous mentors and have the opportunity to participate in immersive full-day workshops.
If you are a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit author residing in Canada, this is an exciting opportunity to start off an established creative career. Applicants may be interested in working with forms like fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, blogs, audiobooks, or narrative podcasts.
By the end of the program, they will be able to advance their career with the knowledge gained from interacting with top industry professionals such as publishers, content managers, and marketers. They may also be considered for the opportunity to record with Audible.
“The Audible Indigenous Writers’ Circle will support the next wave of emerging Indigenous writers, by leveraging Audible’s resources and creative community connections to provide mentorship and learning opportunities that will help program participants tell their own stories.”
Among the currently known mentors is Anishinaabe journalist Tanya Talaga, author of multiple award-winning national bestseller Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death and Hard Truths in a Northern City. She is also the president and CEO of Makwa Creative Inc, a production company that supports Indigenous creative professionals in podcasts, documentary filmmaking, and TV. Other mentors include Richard Van Camp, a Tłı̨chǫ Dene writer from the Northwest Territories who wrote the bestseller The Lesser Blessed, and Kim Wheeler, an Anishinaabe and Mohawk writer and publicist who is passionate about making Indigenous stories known in the media.
The application requires a sample of creative work, a personal reflection, and a completed questionnaire concerning Indigenous self-identity. Applicants must be 18 or older and live in Canada. Due to regulations, applicants from Quebec are unfortunately ineligible. The application deadline is April 30, 2021.
